Our main reason for our London visit was indeed this time the Darts World Cup in Alexandra Palace, but a small detour to the soccer should also be allowed this time ;-)
Since due to the Christmas holidays and the fact that almost only London derbies were played for a Premier League game no cards were available, we decided for the game Leyton Orient : Southend United.
After we had taken the subway to Leyton, we immediately looked for a pub near the stadium, because on the one hand we needed a meeting place for the rest and on the other hand we were also a bit thirsty. We found also a casual pub, whereby we came only after approx. 1 hour draufkamen that there exclusively the away mob from Southend had gathered. Already something unusual that a pub right next to the stadium is besieged without exception by away fans.
The stadium is located - like so many stadiums in England - in the middle of a housing estate. It is a classic "Quadrangle", that by its combination of old and modern tribune knows quite to please.
As the coincidence it so wanted we came directly before a young fan group to sit, which - for English conditions nevertheless something surprise - even with Trum anwesend were. Since this is there apparently a sworn bunch, we were of course immediately noticeable. This caused quite a bit of confusion among the stewards and we were asked several times who we were, what we were doing here and why we were sitting here. They were probably afraid we are from Southend and want to make a fuss - they will not have spied on us already in the pub.
To the break then a disappointment - there was no beer but only tea and cocoa. Well, then rather thirst and wait for the end of the game. The game itself can be dubbed weak. Chances were fogged in rows and the goals that fell were based more on chance. In the end, Southend prevailed 2:1. A draw would have been but probably fairer...
