What could be better than watching a duel between two Austrians in the Championship on Austria's bank holidays? Daniel Bachmann in goal for Watford FC on the one hand and Andreas Weimann in attack for Blackburn Rovers on the other.
The first item on the morning programme, however, was a visit to the British Parliament . After an interesting tour of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the team travelled by train to Watford , where they then had to walk a short distance and, without the other fans, would probably have had to ask for directions several times, as the Vicarage Road stadium was never actually visible beforehand, as it is practically integrated directly into a housing estate.
Once inside the stadium, we took our seats in the stands in the midday sun. Despite being October, the weather was so warm that you could even watch most of the first half in a short T-shirt. There was also a heated scene in the game in the first half, when a Blackburn crossbar shot narrowly missed the goal. Watford also had a few dangerous scenes, but some of them were botched.
After the break, the game gained a bit of momentum, which initially only resulted in yellow cards. Weimann then created a chance when he lobbed the ball over Bachmann, but also over the goal. In the 71st minute, a Blackburn defender was adjudged to have handled, which ultimately led to a penalty, whichEdo Kayembe did not miss and gave the Hornets the lead.
Blackburn now tried everything and were able to get into the penalty area, but rarely managed a dangerous finish. Watford also had some good counter-attacking opportunities during this phase, but these could not be converted into goals either. In the end, Watford held on for a narrow home win.
