The first somewhat "exotic" groundhopping trip took us to the Welsh Premiere League - more precisely to the Cefn Druids to Cefn Mawr near Wrexham.
Early in the morning, we took the train from Birmingham to Wrexham, where we settled into a nice guesthouse. Then we visited a few pubs - including the "The Jockey" with a perceived room height of 1.80 - before we went by bus to Cefn Mawr.
The stadium - well, the soccer field - in Cefn Mawr has a small clubhouse and a small covered seating grandstand. In our country, many a 2nd class club has a better stadium. The fan store is housed in a construction container, and tea is served in various ceramic mugs. During the break, the older people run around with raffle tickets and the stadium announcer stands right in the middle of the fans with a DJ mixer. All in all, a pretty familiar affair.
Because Cefn Mawr is in a beaten last place in the table, you could not really expect anything against the reigning champion. But the fighting spirit was there and so they went after the break somewhat happy but not undeserved in the lead. Now Rhyl but made steam and soon came to the equalizer. Now Rhyl was on the presser, but the goal did not want to succeed. The goalkeeper of the locals - who had previously been conspicuous only by constant knocks into the out - ultimately saved the point with two brilliant saves shortly before the end, which was also celebrated like a victory. The traveling fans of FC Rhyl (which all collectively changed at halftime with their team the game side) had to leave dissatisfied.
In the connection we went still in adjacent pub. This pub was quite funny. The room was divided in two by a bar - and the two rooms could only be reached via the toilet. After one, two pint in Cefn Mawr gings then again by bus back to Wrexham.
