The original club, SK Vitkovice, was founded in 1919, deeply intertwined with the powerful Vítkovice Ironworks that defined the district. Over decades, it grew, eventually becoming TJ Vítkovice during the socialist era. The pinnacle of its success arrived in the 1985-86 season when, against all odds, FC Vítkovice sensationally captured the title of Czechoslovak First League champions. This remarkable achievement earned them a spot in the prestigious European Cup, showcasing their talent on the continental stage. They also made several appearances in the UEFA Cup.

Decline and Rebirth

However, the post-1989 political and economic transformations brought immense challenges. Like many clubs in the region, Vítkovice struggled with financial instability, leading to a gradual decline. Multiple attempts to stabilize the club ultimately failed, culminating in the original entity's insolvency and dissolution around 2011.

From the ashes, a new chapter began. The current club, MFK Vitkovice, emerged from a complex series of mergers and rebrandings, striving to preserve the heritage of its esteemed predecessor. While operating in the lower tiers of Czech football, primarily the Moravian-Silesian Football League (MSFL), the spirit of Vitkovice endures. They play their home matches at the Městský stadion in Ostrava, a modern venue that also occasionally hosts their city rivals, FC Baník Ostrava.
