Montenegro is a professional football club based in Podgorica, Montenegro. Founded in 1929, the club has a rich history and is one of the most successful teams in the country.
The club was originally known as SK Crnogorac and played in the Yugoslav First League until the breakup of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. After Montenegro gained independence in 2006, the club changed its name to FK Budućnost Podgorica and became the most dominant team in the newly formed Montenegrin First League.
In 2016, the club was renamed once again to FK Montenegro and moved to a new stadium, Stadion Pod Goricom, which has a capacity of 15,230 seats. The club's colors are blue and white, and their nickname is Plavi (the Blues).
Throughout their history, Montenegro has won numerous domestic titles, including 14 Montenegrin First League titles, 15 Montenegrin Cups, and 13 Montenegrin Super Cups. They have also had success in European competitions, reaching the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League in 2011.
The club has produced many talented players over the years, including Stevan Jovetić, who went on to play for top clubs such as Fiorentina and Manchester City. Other notable players who have played for Montenegro include Mirko Vučinić, Stefan Savić, and Nikola Vukčević.
In addition to their success on the field, Montenegro is known for their passionate fan base. The club's ultras group, Kotorski Huligani, is one of the most active and vocal in the country, creating an intense atmosphere at home matches.
